TRAVEL: GUBI SHOWROOM, COPENHAGEN

Yesterday my friend Charlotte who I met 7 years ago when she was working for Normann Copenhagen took me to the GUBI showroom where she works now.
An amazing space by Copenhagen's docklands, definitively worth the detour...
There were so many beautiful designs that caught my eye...of course the Bestlite collection - a Bauhaus icon which is still produced in Birmingham in the UK and is now distributed by GUBI (and by all means, watch this video which will give you a full appreciation of what this is a great design).
The Adnet mirror which I mentioned in January when I went to Maison & Objet in Paris on a buying trip and that we will definitively add to our collection soon and the Masculo Collection
GUBI A/S was founded on 1967 by Gubi and Lisbeth Olsen and to this day, it is still a family business now fuelled by a passion to discover overlooked icons from the past and future icons in the making.
Chasing forgotten icons from the 30's to 70's which GUBI A/S re-launched, each piece is exquisite in its own right with a story to tell, capturing a fleeting moment in history which remains relevant to this day.
A perfect example is Bestlite mentioned above, a series of Bauhaus-influenced lamps first produced in 1930 by British designer Robert Dudley Best (Winston Churchill had one on his desk).
GUBI A/S spotted a Bestlite lamp in 1989 in a shop, tracked down the manufacturer, visited the factory and then resurrected this beloved icon of last century as part of a stunning 13-piece collection re-launched worldwide.
